Converting Cubic Centimeters to Cubic Yards & Grams to Pounds

Author: Jim Kennard

Q.  How much 14-14-14 fertilizer must be added to a cubic yard of material to obtain the same concentration of nutrients as under the following condition:  Added 3 grams 13.5-13.5-13.5 to each pot.  The total volume of media in each pot was 500cc.?

What's this a college math test question?  A cubic yard is 764,555 grams, or 1,529.1 times as much as the 500 cc's that require 3 grams of 13.5-13.5-13.5.

Therefore, if you assume that 14-14-14 is the same as 13.5-13.5-13.5, it would require 1529.3 X 3, or 4587.3 grams, 4.587 kg, or 10.11 pounds.

If you want to carry it out to the 3rd digit on the fertilizers, on the assumption that they are actually different materials (which I doubt), then you would divide your 4587.3 by 1.037 (the amount by which 14 is greater than 13.5), and it would require 4423.6 grams, 4.424 kg, or 9.752 pounds.
