Vegetable Gardening Tips, Advice and FAQ's

Background & Motivation of Moderator and Author

Author: Jim Kennard

Q.Mr. Kennard,I have read many, many articles and questions here at "The Food For Everyone Foundation" over the last year.  During all of this time I have wondered whether your dedication to this most worthy "cause" is in any way based on a particular set of religious beliefs.  I am not sure whether that question falls within the expected parameters, but thought I'd take a chance, and just ask it anyway.  Your motives and attitudes could come from any number of sources, of course.  Whatever the case, I am grateful for the untiring work of both yourself and your associates, as I feel sure, are thousands of your other readers and followers.  Warmest regards to all in the foundation.  David

A.  I belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, commonly called
the Mormon Church.  The Foundation is located in Salt Lake City, where my family and I have lived for the past 36 years.

I have been taught about growing vegetables using methods often referred to as "better than organic", "the poor man's hydroponic method", and "Grow-Box" container gardening, by Dr. Jacob R. Mittleider, who is a devout Seventh Day Adventist.  Dr. Mittleider has devoted more than 40 years to learning, writing, teaching, and demonstrating the most productive and sustainable vegetable gardening methods in 28 countries around the world.

I have been very blessed to live near enough to him for 27 years that I could
pick his brain, get his assistance in my own garden, assist him in creating
gardening projects, and finally in 1998, have him turn all of his materials over
to the Foundation and me to try and carry on and expand on his great work.

The work is daunting, but I believe strongly in the importance of the
message and in trying to help others have happier, healthier, and more
productive lives.  So far we have been able to do projects in Turkey,
Madagascar, and Armenia, as well as assisting Dr. M. in several others.

In addition to the materials and the website, I write occasional articles
and teach 1/2-day seminars to church, community, and gardening groups, and we are completing a set of 70 video gardening lessons that will soon be available on 2 CD ROM's and playable using Flash.

I hope you find valuable assistance in these pages for growing the best garden possible for your family.  You can read my occasional web logs in the Blog section.  I highly recommend the Mittleider Gardening Library CD for the best gardening advice on the planet.  It's at www.growfood.com/.

The Mittleider Gardening books and Manuals teach all you need to know about this subject, and can be purchased in the Store section, or as digital downloads.

A digital copy costs 30-40% less, and is available instantly!  I HIGHLY recommend you look here http://www.hightechhomestead.com/Products.htm for the best gardening books available anywhere!  Get one NOW and be gardening TODAY.
